Does garlic in the drinking water make mites go away?

Hello, so recently at night, I saw that one of my roosters had a sunken in comb, and when I looked closer, I noticed that ticks or mites were all over his head! I spent a long time taking them all off, but three or four keep on coming back each night. I've read online that garlic can be put into the water to repel mites. Does this actually work?

I seriously doubt it.
You need to ID the bugs definitively, then treat with the appropriate chemical.
