Does he look fat to you?

yes, he is a bit chubby. He is more solid and square shaped than he should be. When you stand above him he should have a defined waist, hour glass shaped. If my dog isn't getting as much exercise I try and cut back on the food a bit, or feed green beans.

Yep, looks like there's more of him to love than needed for his own sake. My vets always said to trim my dogs down by feeding green beans along with the healthy ration of dog food. They sure are cuties, though.

He could stand to lose a pound or two (couldn't we all?

He should have a "waist".

I agree.
You should be able to feel the ribs without having to push at all on the fur. If you have to push on the fur to feel the ribs there is extra. It is also not just about exercise though. It means they are consuming to many calories.
How much food are you feeding them at every meal, making sure you measure it properly will go a long way. Adding low calorie items like canned pumpkin and green beans can help a dog feel more full with a meal.
What seems to be a little bit of extra weight on most animals is actually quite a bit, What works out to be about 1 or 2 lbs for them would equal quite a bit more for us so any extra weight will really start to increase the stress and strain on joints, increase their potential for injury such as ACL tears and other othropedic issues.
I would recommend having them both lose weight.
Good luck!
p.s. Swimming is a great exercise for them but calories in will still keep them overweight.
