Does it have to be sugar free yogert?

I use plain yogurt and I dont give it to them very often. when I give them some I mix in a little DE and some scratch..or bread. They love that! it gets all over their face and its hilarious. I dont know alot about chickens yet (Im new at this) but i do know that with ANYTHING you should use it in moderation.

I freeze a 32oz tubs of plain low fat or fat-free yogurt. About once a week during the hot season I'll dump out a giant yogurt pop sickle on a pie pan and let them peck at it until it melts, which takes a surprisingly long time. In fact, they usually finish it while it's still frozen. Keeps them cool and provides, protein, calcium and probiotics.

Freezing it sounds like a great idea for those hot days.
Thanks. Great idea!!

yeah, I'm a little mystified by the "never" feed yougurt. Been feeding yougurt for 8 years, never had a problem.

I avoid the sweetened because they don't need it, regardless of what sort of sweetner, and I don't eat that myself - I prefer to drizzle maple syrup over the banana on the yogurt....yum. oh yeah, i forgot, we're talking about chickens, not me!

um, you want to look at the label of the yogurt to see if it has any probiotics in it - the highly processed kind doesnt, and that tends to be the kind that has the fake sweetner or lots of sweetner. There is a lot of yogurt in the grocery store that isn't worth eating for the chicks or for you!

The only yogurt I eat is the greek yogurt and when I'm done with it I will wipe the container out with a piece of bread. Usually doesn't amount to much but they enjoy it all the same. I also only eat vanilla flavor. I don't like fruit in my yogurt and I can't eat the plain plain
