I've read that having hens lay in the open stresses them out and that's why they need nesting boxes. the first egg my hen layed was in the box in the morning sometime. But yesterday she layed an egg in her play pen around the afternoon.? :( can this be bad for her.? Shall I keep them in their original run where she has access to the coop and nests.?

Don't worry, hens lay where they choose. Sometimes, they need to lay so bad they just do it on the ground. Other times, they seek out the most hidden place possible. She should get the hang of using the boxes soon.

Best of luck with your chickens!

Also.! Will they regulate their laying times with age.? I thought chickens lay in the morning, mines lays eggs in the afternoon

I heard somewhere that chickens lay an hour later every day in their cycle and then skip a day and start over. I'm not sure if that is true, but I do know that my hens are on nests practically all day. It is true, a lot of them lay in the morning, but I find hens on nests in the afternoon, evening, and sometimes they spend the night on them as well!
