I just had a mass chick death and people are asking about the light bulb. Could a Little Giant non stick base heat lamp be teflon coated? The box doesn't say, but non stick sounds suspicious. Any one else encounter this problem?.

I called Little Giant and the non-stick stick base is "teflon like". The symptoms of death were identical to teflon gas death. Back to soft white super market bulbs for me!

What did they say about the death of your chicks?

They were non-plused. It is a sort of new phenomenon. Even the chicken specialist at Cornell didn't think of it until I asked her about it, at which point she thought that was the problem. . The guy I spoke to at Little Giant was primarily concerned with calling the coating "teflon like" because the name teflon is copyrighted. I think these bulbs are a new design because there are very few reviews out yet and I trust that Little Giant will do something. Most stories about teflon coated bulbs killing chickens are about GE rough duty bulbs. Phillips puts a warning on the bulb.
