Crowing
I picked up my meatloaf of a EE today and noticed that she had a few bubbles on her left eye, maybe 5, varied sizes. I wiped them off and checked her breathing, it seems dragged and sounded a bit like pop rocks. When I checked my other chickens their breathing seemed ok I think? I never actually listened to their breathing this closely before, is it ok that there is this little, I dunno, moist sound when they breathe in? Maybe it is the sound of muscles? This sound is light and they all have it. She is 2 years old and has had past medical problems. Also recently 9 out of 17 chickens of the flock are gone, 3 re-homed roos, and 6 killed by predators. I know that stress can make a chicken sick.
(This is where the persisting health problem talk starts, be warned)
A little more backstory of her health problems because by gosh does she have many. Even before the 9 left, she just didn't seem as stimulated as the other hen and is usually overheated. Last year she lost a crazy amount of weight and then suddenly gained a LOT a few months later. (her weights seemed to have gotten better, still getting a bit more weight after the winter) Didn't lay eggs for like 2-4 months and when she finally started to lay they were misshapen, light green covered with dusty grey, they are kinda like both sides are the bottom part, with one slightly pointed. She still lays them. She has molting problems and a slightly dropped tail. She lost her muff since the spring of last year and is still growing it back. She does not like being picked up but she seems too weak to squirm away. If your thinking that she does not get her good days, no, sometimes she perks and she is a fighter.
(More backstory, sorry) I honestly think that where ever Tractor Supply got these EE from was from a bad breeder because the other 5 seemed to also have respiratory problems. One died young because of a weird breathing problem, he would close his eyes and stretch his neck, sometimes would flail like a chicken with its head chopped off, I'll miss you Dragon. The others also had weird behaviors but died from other causes before I had enough awareness of chicken body language to read into it more.
Sorry for all of the gibber. I have talked about Ivory multiple times and people have given amazing responses but nothing seems to help her persisting problems.
So back to the new problem, what is it and how do I treat it. It is night, but tomorrow, if needed I can get more pictures and etc.
