Hello everyone I am new to chickens and have noticed something about my mottled Cochin bantam rooster.
I got him when he was 4.5 months old and he was just fine! But when he turned 5.5 months old (I remember cause I’m concerned) he caught a flu. Now I thought it would go away itself like with humans but it didn’t. And now he is 8 months old and still has the flu!!! It’s even messing up his crowing!
Someone pls tell me how I can get rid of his flu because my other chickens have also been affected a little

Do you have any photos of him?
What are his symptoms?

There are several common respiratory illnesses - Mycoplasma, Infectious Bronchitis, Infectious Coryza and ILT are a few. Symptoms include coughing, sneezing, runny nose, eye discharge, facial swelling and lethargy. These illnesses are contagious and can make your whole flock carriers of the disease. Secondary infections can be treated with antibiotics like Tylan50 which can be found at most feed stores. Dosage is 1ml per 5lbs of weight given 2times a day for 5days.

Respiratory symptoms can also be caused by dry/dusty bedding and feed, molds, poor ventilation in housing and ammonia from excess droppings.

The symptoms are runny nose and sneezing.
Also as I wrote above it’s “messing up his crowing” when I say that I mean it’s like he has congestion MAYBE I’m not sure

Sneezing and runny nose that has lingered for several months could be something like Infectious Bronchitis - this is a virus that has to run it's course. See that he is eating/drinking well, has plenty of fresh air. Antibiotics may help if he has a secondary infection. Do your best to keep his nostrils clear, if he has runny/goopy eyes, those should be flushed with saline or sterile water.

If you have vet care that is always best.
