Does the crest make a difference in sex of polish?

I got 2 polish (pullets) from Murray McMurray, a Gold Laced and Silver Laced. They are 4 1/2 weeks old and the crest are completely different. I don't know if that makes any difference in the sex of them especially at this age. Maybe someone with experience with polish could help me out.

the gold ones crest is full and round the silver ones is weird its like a mow hawk in the back and not round at all.

The crest on a hen is rounded and poofy; the feathers of the crest have blunt, rounded tips. The feathers in the crest of a rooster are longer, more slender and pointed. Think of it this way, the hen has a 'fro, the rooster's crest looks more like dreads.

The quality of the birds can affect the shape of the crest to some degree, too. A lot of the white crested blacks have longer feathers in their crests; I've seen roosters with crest feathers that almost brush their shoulders.

I think she's right!

My polish were easy to tell. I got the same colors and I could tell my their temperament which one one was a roo long before I could tell by their crest. I'd wait another week it should be much easier to tell then.

It takes a while before you can tell by the crest. My polish are almost three months old and the crest are only now starting changing shape.

I guess my silver laced is just weird. Are all Polish so skiddish. No matter how much time i spend with them they still run from me. They wont take treats from me or anything. My other chicks always ran to my hand when i held it out but not these two.

No not all are skiddish, just give them time they'll warm up to you,I had one who would jump on my shoulder (She just did it on her own)

They both look like roos to me,but I might be wrong, they're still pretty young.

I have an almost 7 week old polish who is the sweetest! Jumps on our shoulders, heads, snuggles under our chin, loves to sit on our lap and preen. Of course I did spend a few weeks bringing her back to life from a bad case of wry neck, so that may have something to do with it. She was the most skittish of our chicks before that happened. :)
