Does the day eggs are laid effect hatch day ?

Hi all

I am new on here and new to incubating.

Question 1 Does the day eggs were laid change the day eggs will hatch (I have days laid between 1-8 days prior to incubating in the same batch)

Question 2 Does the day of fertilisation change hatch day (same as above)

Obviously it would be extremely hard or impossible to have a batch being incubated that were fertilised on the same day and or laid the same day

No, you can store fertile eggs up to 10 days as I understand, but date of fertilization doesn't matter. A hen can be without the roo a few days and still lay fertile eggs.

Eta: sperm can be stored up to ten days in the hens oviduct.

I went from 45-50ish chickens down to 10. Only 3 hen old enough to lay. So I collected eggs for two weeks to hatch and build my flocks back up.... There are some on here who have kept eggs longer and had successful hatches. A successful hatch is determined by is it fertilized, proper storage can play a part (pointy end down always), proper temp during incubation, proper humidity, and keeping them turned. If you hand turn, you need to do it three times daily. Morning, midday and evening. This insures the embryo inside doesn't "stick" to any one side.

As for the length of keeping eggs, I don't know the "scientific" answer. Just my experiences.....
