So I have been reading quite a bit and I read a few post that said before the males get their long train, the shape of their tail display can help determine the sex of peafowl. If the tail display create the shape of a half moon or like a sideways C the fowl is a hen and if the shape of tail display creates a spade shape, a slightly rounded upside down V or a jagged 'mountain' shape (for lack of better comparison) the fowl is a male. Has anyone tried this method? Was it accurate? I will see if I can save the photos they used as examples and share incase I have confused anyone lol.

Edited note: these are not my pictures but ones from the site I was reading about the shape of tail display.
Picture 1 shows both young male and female displays...female is rounded like half moon or sideways C display and males in the back with a spade or slightly rounded upside down V shape display.
Picture 2 shows male with 'mountain' shape display

At the age of 2 ... no need to look at the shape of the feathers of the tail(spatula shape) ... the peacock is BLUE and the peahen is GREEN/GREY!
At the peacock impossible to count the feathers of the neck ... it's like fur! With the female we always be able to count the feathers of the neck ...!

I was looking more before the age of two...more like 10 months to a year. Getting ready to order our dna test so that we dont have to wait...we have a white and a silver pied. Wanna know what we have so that I know do I need more hens or just a cock

At 3/4 months young male Blue Silver pied is like that :

.... so it's a female !
The best is when the male is 1 year older than the female! At 2 years the peahen will lay but a male of 2 years is not surely fertile!

Ya mine has a neck about like the first picture....the pix here it's hard to see ...not quite 3 months yet. its 8-10 weeks. In the sunlight it looks like that first picture. I ordered test last night from IB so hopefully it will be here soon and results back :)

Just wanted to come back for an update. Apparantly some info given about tail feathers is pretty accurate. Both my White and Silver Pied Peas are Cocks :) . I cant wait til their full trains come in, tho I know with their age it will be a couple of years.
