Looks like a hen from what little I can see... things indicative of this bird being a full grown hen are well shaped, plump wattles, filled in feathers around the head, a strong, full beak, and those short feathers around the earlobes that tend to fill in last. Lopped combs are almost always only seen in females, especially when the comb is that small.
Agree with above posters. Good body pictures - especially ones that show the hackle (bottom of the neck area) and saddle (toward the back) feathers - will be very helpful. You can't always tell by just looking at the comb and wattles.
Ok, so I am new to this website/forum as of tonight and I am thrilled and delighted with all of this feedback. Thank you to all. This is a young bird - just about 6 months old. I have many in my flock - all same age - different varieties - and this one is the biggest and his/her comb is also bigger. I'll take a full body shot and post tomorrow. Thanks again.
