I got the chickens out this morning and one of them has a bloody comb. looks like she was trying to get food out of the container and kept trying but scratched her comb all up... either that or she was scared of the thunderstorm last evening... but I'm leaning towards the food thing since there is blood on it.

do I need to put antibiotic ointment on it?

Just to be safe I would clean it with peroxide and put an antibiotic ointment on it. never hurts. Don't use antibiotic ointment with pain killer in it. Watch for flies so she doesn't get maggots.

thank you

I put some generic "neosporin" on it... the triple antibiotic ointment... I hope thats not one with pain reliever!

What happens if you use one with pain reliever?

The antibiotic ointments or anything else for that matter that ends in a 'aine' like lidocaine, benzocaine, solarcaine is poisonous to a chicken. I'm not sure what 'aine' is in the antibiotic ointments. I'll have to check next time I go to wal-mart.
