We got our chicks (Mt Healthy) this morning. I wasn’t expecting them until tomorrow so I didn’t have everything set up quite yet. Does this look ok? I feel bad it’s not up to temp yet but they seem to be doing ok. Going back and forth from the heater and food/water.
How soon after the gro gel should we offer starter food? And grit? Should I add vitamins or ACV to the water? The Buff Orpington chick had pasty butt and I cleaned it up best I could. Just not wanting to screw up ❤️

I would give them their starter now.
Electrolytes in one waterer and fresh water in a second are a good idea for the first three days.
Are they running around and active? They seem to be pressed right up to the heater.
What is the air temperature in the bathroom?
They will be flying up to your counter in about 2.5 weeks unless you put a screen or something over the tub!

they go back and forth between the heater and running around. I turned our house temp up to 70 as that bathroom gets warmer than anywhere else and closed the shower curtain to better keep the heat in. And yeah we will be putting some chicken wire on top the tub eventually. I also have some cardboard rolls we can use. The tub is surprisingly deep but I still expect they could get out soon.

Wait, people brood in the house?? How to deal with the smell???by 2 weeks I kicked mine out of my garage to their coop and brooded in there. I cant imagine having them inside.

Haha! I used to always brood inside but I know only do that when I have small batches.
I’ve also kept house chickens before too! The smell is non existent as long as your constantly cleaning up after them!

Man, I only have 7 and cleaned their brooder multiple times a day but they stunk to high heavens. I dont smell anything in their run or coop but I'm guessing it's because they dont poop in just 1 spot and their coop has tons of ventilation.
