Got told yellow legs means its a young chicken and not old

I've been tol the yellow leg thing, but also that the older chickens have rougher legs, more scales on them.

No, yellow legs mean the chicken has yellow legs.

Brighter yellow can mean it's a younger bird, many hens' legs fade lighter as they lay and age. But it has to be a breed that has yellow legs to start with---different breeds have yellow, white, pink, grey, green, etc.
