This is an odd one. I hatched a couple eggs from my own flock, although I’m not sure exactly who the parents are. About 6 weeks old now, that comb looks awfully big…

I was sure it was a pullet, I’ve been learning about chicken genetics, particularly leg color genetics. So, if a rooster with slate legs and a hen with yellow legs had a chick, then the sons would have white or yellow legs while the daughters would have slate or green legs. So I’m very confused now. I’ll go make a post in the breeding forum category and see if they can explain it.

Anyway the fact that the wattles are tiny and colorless are giving me a bit of hope that it could still be a girl. I hatched 5 chicks and I’m pretty confident 2 others are males

Yeah, I know you can tell in some barred breeds and such with leg color, but I haven't heard of being able to tell based on the way you are describing (but I stand to be corrected!) A crested Swedish Flower hen cross sounds neat!

Here's a link to some interesting leg shank color genetics information: https://www.sciencedirect.com/scien...?ref=pdf_download&fr=RR-2&rr=9614ee59cf2a344c
Huh, that is interesting. Of course, it’s much more complicated than I thought! The E locus can affect the shank color too. You learn something new every day!

Oh my gosh is it cute, though! I love the little tuft. Looks a lot like the one my legbar has.

This chick is just a darling, super friendly but also a troublemaker! My Swedish Flower hens were all like that as chicks, it’s so cute seeing how these chicks inherited their parents traits since I know the parents so well.

Their name is Thistle, guess I made a good choice choosing a gender-neutral name!
