Doesn't ANYONE know HOW to count change back anymore?

a dime makes 25.00
20 makes 45
20 makes 65

and 5 makes 100

that is how it should have been counted back. not here is 75.13.

It's been years since change has routinely been counted back to me. I was actually shocked the other day when I went through a drive-thru to get a tea...they actually counted back my change. I learned very young how to count back change, and it used to be a requirement for certain jobs even if a register told the amount of change due, lol.

it doesn't bother me when it is like $4 and you give them a $5 or even a $20 but I think when you are dealing with a large amount of money it should be a given to count it back.

and it may just be because I worked in a bank for 2 years...

but I did count change before then.

In the club I am in I am the treasurer and it is quicker to do the math in my head then to fiddle with a calculator during our pulls. Especially when I have about 30-40 people wanting to sign up. lol.

I was the Manager of our local Burger King, and most of the students that I hired didn't know how to count change. I had students that were A students that couldn't. The Vocational Woman that saw after them and checked to see if I was hiring asked if they were alright. I told her that none of these kids could count back change, and she told me that the schools didn't teach it anymore, but she would teach it to those that came thru her. At the drive-thru, they had to know how to count change back, because the order on the register may not be the one at the window. It just blew me away that parents didn't teach it.

I remember work experience as a 14 y/o
We had a cash register that would calculate change
except I could never grasp how to use it, so I did the calculations in my head
if the customer asked, I would count it
if not I let them do it themselves or just let them go, there were too many of them to do it exactly every time

I do not remember having got change wrong
if I did, they did not notice
I would never try to keep extra change and try to cheat customers though

Not only do people not know how to count change, they can't hand it to you properly.

We were trained to count the coin into the customers hand first, then lay the bills on top of the coin as it was counted back. Then the receipt on top facing up toward the customer to show the transaction and change due.
That way the coins don't slide off onto the floor, causing inconvenience to the customer.

How difficult is it for a cashier to count back change? The cash register even says how much he/she is supposed to give back. And it isn't hard to count out the bills to make the change.

Well, I own three businesses and our register tells you the change and I had one 50 year old woman who's drawer NEVER balanced! She couldn't even pull the correct change out of the drawer and it TOLD her the amount! We don't count back, like the old days, to count change because the computer counts it for us, but we do say....."your change is $$.$$". And I have to admit if I input something wrong and the change comes up wrong and you do know when it's wrong, it takes a second to regroup and get into the counting back to give the change. With the technology we don't need to count back.....
