Throw a raw whole salmon out in the yard. Dog eats the salmon and then gets sick.. Not many dogs survive it with out going to the vet. It would teach the owners a leason about letting their dog roam..
Lead is a good cure but make sure you get it the first time. It can come back and haunt you with the fines on animal cruelty. Just to let you know. And dont take the animal back to the owner yourself not a good idea that turns ugly even when you know your in the right.
Misery loves company. One of my Black Giants, I raised from chicks, decided she would set. She was the proud mama of 8 little black chicks and one red (Road Island Red Rooster).
I only have three brave little black chicks left.
Racoons.....
I feel your loss. So sorry for you.
Please Start over... Get some more, name them too.
And get rid of the dang dog.
I have 16 eggs under another volunteer mama hen..... 22 more days!
I'm sorry! Last month I came home to my moms dog in my chicken run eating one of my Buff O pullets and trying to get back in the coop to get more. Her bf just let the dog run free outside. Now i have hotwire at the base on the outside so the chickens don't fry and everytime that dog goes over to smell at the chickens he gets his nose zapped on the highest my hotwire will go he yelps for a good 2 or 3 minutes he just wont learn. its not on 24/7 though i have an 18 month old son who loves to play with the chickens so if we are out the hotwire is off.
Same on you guys, poision is not the answer. How would like it if your free range chicks were treated like that. The dog only did what is natural. Find the owner, give him/her a bill, turn him in. I have seen dogs die this way and it is not fun or funny.
I lost my 5 hens to a dog about a month ago, and it was my own dog. I failed to lock the chicken gate and the dog only did what comes natural. It was my fault, not the dogs.
