The dog was in the yard on a killing rampage with our 11 chicks, mother hen and 4 hens.
He managed to kill 1 chick, injure another and injure one hen. The mom lead as many babies away as she could. I have not been able to handle her yet to check for injuries.
So 1 hen is missing all her tail feathers, the place where they were ripped out is bleeding at eat follicle. There were feathers in 3 different locations in the yard , he chased her all over the place. We found her under the house, she looked dead and her feathers were all over the yard. We pulled her out with a pitch fork and then she starting crying. She has no bite marks, but is missing a lot of feathers.
She is separated and in a cage with a towel over here on our porch. What should I do about her feathers? I brought her in and she is not in shock at all but fully in panic still. Should I clean the places where her feathers were ripped out? It all looks pretty clean.
The chick (1month old) was really hurt I found her crawling out of bucket using only 1 leg and 1 wing. I washed her cause she was covered in dirt. She was bitten on the back under her wing. I washed the 2 bite marks that were bleeding a bit. Then put peroxide on the two small holes, it looks like just the skin was broke. She is wrapped in a towel sitting on a hot water bottle in the kitchen in a cage with a towel over her. She opens her eyes when there is noise and so on.
I am giving them all water but don't want to stress them any more.
Any tips?
