Dog attack at 6:30am today

I don't think I would want my wife to get that close to aggressive dogs, especially a pit bull. I wonder if the hot shot and ammonia would even deter a pit whose switch had been flipped?

I have only two pieces of advice. One, lead em just a little if they are running, and two, squeeze the trigger, don't pull. Nuff said.

ya can't shoot their owners so shoot the dogs so they don't have to suffer an existence with a neglectful owner.Ya gotta protect what's yours. Too many people are too soft and make excuses for everyone these days like....." oh she can't handle her dogs ,she's divorced" or "this has happened a few times before but I don't want to punish the owners by killing their dogs".

The dog is being used in a crime just as if it was being used to hold you up.It just happens the owners aren't there. And don't wait for Animal Control. A sense of Urgency is something they have never heard of.
Good luck and be careful what's behind the dogs when you squeeze the trigger.

That is an interesting perspective. And I agree with it.

Pit bulls get a bad rap and unfortunately it's not always undeserved. ANY poorly socialized dog WILL be a problem regardless of breed. Are amstaffs especially tough? Yes, they are. Indifference from ANY dog spells BIG troble. Dispach those dogs ASAP.

Was I the only one who noticed the Malamute (spitz) didn't get any steriotypical judgement like the terrier did? Spitz have a VERY strong prey drive and a re quite stubborn too; more stubborn that terriers.

Husky types are notorious chicken killers. You could probably find a chicken-killing story for every breed of dog on the planet, though.

Note to the participants in this thread. Antifreeze poisoning is not condoned by BYC, nor are any other torturous ways of killing a predator. Please review the rules stickied at the top of the Predators and Pests section, particular to this subject, not just the general BYC rules.

Crystal, please check in with us and let us know all is well, okay?

I don't want to give the impression of a false sense of security; just something to keep handy while you are in the yard and the dogs come back. I would never go after a dog in attack mode without a gun. I doubt a hot shot or amonia would stop a pit in attack mode, but either might give you time to get back in the house if the dogs come in your yard while you're already outside.

Animal control showed up over 24 hours later. Haven't seen the dogs since. They said they would set a trap if they started frequenting the property. And if we find out who the owners are they will talk to them. Otherwise he said to shoot only if us or are animals are in immediate danger. He also saif if we kill a dog or wound one to call and let them know. But he also clarified that there will be an investigation to make sure it was self defense and not animal cruelty. So that tells me that the last part of SSS is very important.

The fence across the front of the property is close to being finished. Just have to get the wood posts and gates up.
