TX baby!
My poor rooster has had a very bad week this week.

First on Thurs. a dog got in the yard and chased them (thankfully no one was injured just a few tail feathers missing). He got the rooster down but thankfully didnt know what to do at that point. Very friendly dog and was called off easily when threaten with a big stick and made his way home.

Well today one of our dogs was left out in the yard this morning while the chickens were out for 9-10:30. Split the flock up 6 inside the coop rooster and 3 hens missing and was doing a cutting horse impersonation with Brabanter in the rose bed when we found her. Thankfully none of the hens are hurt and were all discovered by early afternoon including the spooky Tophat who was in the garage.

Anyway Kelly the rooster is the only one with damage as in almost all of his back feathers are gone, his back is bruised and bloody looking but no holes. He is missing feathers at the junction of the wing and body. It appears that he tried to squeeze behind a wall and gate and the dog dug at him.

Right now he is in isolation in the house he appears to be a bit shaken, he will go to the vet first thing in the morning ( I work there so no big deal) but is there anything I can do for him in the mean time. We did some hydro on his wounds to clean out the dirt and debris and check for holes. He was rather calm through that and I am impressed because he wasnt handled a lot.

He is 8 month old Welsummer
On Layena crumble mixed with broiler feed right now due to the cold. Occasionally food scraps from the house
He is eating and drinking normally
Poop is normal

I would prefer that he not be kept in the house as much as possible as we have 2 puppies that are VERY interested in chickens right now and have strong chase instincts. As well as babies coming in soon

Hello,

Glad he is ok. I would rub a little neosporin (non pain killer) on any bloody spots he might have to avoid infection. Keep him warm and away from pecking chickens for a few days.

Good Luck
