I had a neighbor dog attack my favorite chicken. I want to do everything I can to not have to cull her. But if it needs to be done I will. She’s moving around I isolated her. Cleaned the wound and lightly packed her wound with some semi liquid wet with saline gauze and lightly wrapped around under her wing and where the damage is at. It doesn’t look like she has anymore skin in the area and it’s bright red and fleshy but it looked clean when I was inspecting it. She doesn’t seem lethargic and I gave her water and food and some crushed up eggs in a dish for her to eat too. I just need more advice on how to take care of her. She is the sweetest thang and always came to me for cuddles and I’m just so heartbroken at her state. (This is on her back going over her rude side under the wing. )

I'm sorry that happened :( Keep her isolated and it clean. I would treat her for shock even if she isn't showing signs of that right now. It should heal over time. I hope someone with experience can give you some advice!

Also how did the dog get to your chickens? How was it dealt with? I would be worried it will come back for your other chickens!

I’m not 100% sure on how to treat for shock. If you could tell me. I’ve had chickens for 3 years now and this is the first thing I’ve dealt with and I’ve tired going by the book and everything for their health otherwise.

I have cameras and I was able to have a few words with the neighbor that owns the dog. To which they benefit from my eggs so they were very heart felt for me and made sure if there was anything they could do they would do it. My neighbors love seeing my chickens.
