My chicken was attacked by a dog this morning. I have brought her inside and put her in a large dog kennel. While I was cleaning the one wound on her back I noticed under her wing there was a large piece of skin laid back from the attack. You can see the fat but there is no blood. What should I do about the large piece of skin that is folded back and still attached to her? I'm cleaning it with peroxide and iodine.

Here are some things that come to mind:

1. Keep doing what you are doing (peroxide/iodine, keep her separate from the others, etc.)
2. Apply some triple antibiotic ointment (or similar product)
3. Consider using a product like vet wrap to hold the flesh against her body and keep the wound clean
4. Make sure she continues to eat and drink
5. Consider giving her some vitamins and/or increase her protein intake to assist her in the healing process

Poor chicken! I had one of mine badly attacked and she had a huge hole in her back.... amazing she recovered really well... they are very hardy.

I think the flap of skin will just dry up and fall off.

Good idea to post to pics so we can get a better idea of what is going on.

Wrap it in gauze after putting Neosporin or something on it. Keep her in your house in a dog crate or something. They can survive more than you would think. 2 different times my chicken has been close to death after other chickens attached her. but she is living well now. Don't worry. Just make her eat and let her rest. Good luck.

I put antibacterial ointment on her this evening. But today she hasn't moved a bit! Now she is laying to one side (off of the side that is wounded) with her feet nearly out from under her. She has a small odor that I would guess to be from the piece of skin hanging off. I know that in a earlier post someone said to let it fall off but the place where it is still attached is about 3 inches!
