Dog attack

When a neighbor's dog killed my chickens I charged him $25/hen, as that's what a started pullet would have cost me. He paid it gladly and got rid of that dog and we have since become good friends so I can't say I'm entirely sorry it happened.

I actually have them in a separate section of the front of the coop. They seems to be doing well, they do not like their wound cares but its going okay. The one pictured above has a pretty minor wound considering. My other one...well now that its cleaned up and ive done seen it multiple time...it looks much deeper that a plucking. There is also a very dark area under her wing. She also stumbles when i move her wing away from the wound. Would this one benefit from a vet visit? Or what else do I need to be looking for? She seems like her regular self. Is eating, drinking and laying eggs.

Oh, I would say if a vet visit is an option, by all means go for it. So many of us don't have avian vets anywhere near us, and in many cases vets won't see chickens as they feel they aren't worth it. Just be advised that costs may be prohbitive so you might call and ask first. For example, what does the office visit cost? Then how much are x-rays? Blood work to determine if an antibiotic is needed. Etc.

I found one on Saturday after if happened and they told me $125 per chicken and then when I told them how many they offered me a deal at $125 for the first and $40 for every subsequent chicken. Those were saturday, urgent care hours so maybe I can get less than that with an actual appointment, but that is just for the exam.

Okay. Good. The back half looks just like skin but the top looks deeper but I guess thats fat?
