Good afternoon, 2 days ago a dog got one of my chickens. My husband was able to save the chicken but she lost a lot of feathers on her back and got a small puncture wound. I cleaned the wound and sprayed poultry aid on her wound and open skin. We put her in a kennel inside the coop with water that I put the green and orange save a chic packs in as well as food. I wanted to leave her close to her buddies but not to where they could hurt her anymore. She is pooping and peeing. She is drinking and eating. She laid an egg yesterday that did have a little blood on the shell. She isn’t walking around she’s staying laid down. I got home this afternoon and she’s breathing heavy. Is there anything else I can do? I was scared to give her aspirin cause I didn’t know if she had internal bleeding. We don’t have a vet who will help they think it’s just a yard chicken. I was hoping she would pull through but I don’t want her laying down there suffering either. Any suggestions would be helpful thank you

I'm not an expert but what's the temperature like where you are? Is it possible she's getting too hot?
I've had a couple chickens get injured by dogs. They recovered fine. Mine also had some very small wounds and a lot of lost feathers, as well as some trauma. They each went and hid for a while.

Welcome!
I'm sorry this happened, and her heavy breathing isn't a good sign.
Internal injuries are a common story here, especially if the dog wasn't tiny. hens often do have internal injuries that aren't obvious at first, and cause death anyway. That's happened here, sadly. Antibiotics are nice, but won't fix really bad problems with internal damage either.
If she rallies, great. Otherwise, it may be time to say goodby.

Hello! Sorry to hear. same happened to me about 1-2 months ago to my duck. He got two punctures tho. I assume the breathing heavily Is stressed or shock. Electrolytes help with dress. When my duck punctures I sprayed the wounds with blue kote to prevent infection. I hope the dog didn’t touch any vital organs. However when my duck got attacked I gave him children’s ibreprofen. The dose is .11mL per pound but I’m not sure if it’s the same for a chicken. Have you checked every where for wounds? My duck had 2 wounds. One in his back by his neck and another one on his stomach by his leg. I didn’t find his second wound after a day or two. Have you figured out who’s dog it is? A week later the same dog made a b line to them but my dad got in time and rescued them. Called the police and they came AGAIN after the first attack and took the dog to the animal shelter. However we decided to take their dog to the animal shelter because the dog was not cared for and didn’t have vaccines. You don’t want the dog coming again and harming your chickens.

Yes it was an accident, the dog normally doesn’t bother them at all hasnt in years so I don’t know what made her all the sudden run over. She hasn’t looked at them since cause she got in major trouble. I have looked her over pretty good. Her poop is really loose. Hopefully she will make it
