Dog breed debate.

If you really want to know what he is, a DNA test is the only way to tell. What a dog looks like he is and what he is is not necessarily the same thing.

What DNA test did you use?

Depending on which one you used, I will either agree or disagree.

Looks like a boxer x gsd to me. Could you get a side profile photo? Here is my dogs side profile for example, I can judge better with a photo like this:

He looks like what we in the UK call a Heinz 57. Aka 57 varieties!

I would trust the DNA test above internet opinions.

But I'd also say, he is rather overweight. His quality of life will really improve if you restrict his food intake, and you'll help alleviate the pain of inevitable arthritis, especially since he is older and a heavier breed.

I wanted to say that too, but it does offend some people. LOL

Overweight dogs usually have their life span docked off at least 2 years. Diabetes can happen too, as well as a few pounds off would help with arthritis and general mobility of a senior dog.

Call it British directness!

And tbh, I'm more concerned with the health and wellbeing of a dog than the feelings of offendedness of a human dog owner. Sorry if that seems insensitive, I did try to say it tactfully!

No judgment from me, and I hope the OP took my comment in the friendly spirit I intended it.

I've got heavy dog breeds and I'm trying to be so careful they don't get overweight because the pain from arthritis is miserable (I have it).

Just seen the OP's update after I typed this. That is great news you've got it under treatment. Buster will really benefit I'm sure.
