Dog caught

Just another thought, the only part that they test for rabies is the brain of the animal. Calling the local hospital ER might help give you the on call number of the person who handles the recovery of the necessary parts for testing, you might even try the Medical Examiners office.

I agree with the poster that said that you should speak with the parents of the child that was bitten and find out where they are in the process of determining the harm that their child has suffered, and if they need the animal for any purpose, if they do not, then the ball is firmly in your court.

I'm glad you got one anyways...
If it's attacked a person, even over here, it gets put into quarantine...until the owner gets evidence that it's had it's shots or after 15 days of observations.

Animal control showed up last night and picked up the dog. After explaining all that had went on, and the fact that I wanted to press charges, the AC officer said that he'd put a hold on the dog. If the owner comes back to get it again, he'll have to pay double the fines, and restitution to me in court before he can get the dog back I think. Something like that. I was a little flustered. And he's going to tell the owner what the dog did, and that it was witnessed. Also, he said that if they pick it up a third time, the guy won't get it back at all. SO yeah, he said to shoot the dog if it comes back again.

In other words, they are going to give the this dog back to the owners??? After it bit a child? THEN, its still your responsibility to deal with it if it does it again?

Is there any doubt in anyone's mind that this dog will "do it again"?

I say shoot the AC officer, the dog owner and then the dog! In that order.... :thun

I posted before on your other---_THIS IS A LONG POST__SORRY!!!!!!!!!!!

Besides our cat being killed--on our steps--I was also bitten by 4 dogs last april as well-but I didn't share that in the last post--as it is not easy to share--

My children were out walking on our small private 5 housed road-in the country-and I immediatley felt the need to be with them--and in no less time then 10 mins of me walking out with our leashed lab--I saw 4 dogs out of my side vision coming towards my children and I---
My daughter was 7 at the time--and my son 11....I saw them lunge for my daughters neck--and I pushed her out of the way as fast as I could---they then got me instead--thankfully--
I yelled, and pushed the kids to go home and get their father--(he was outside doing some woodworking and couldnt hear the screams and yells---)They kept trying to come back to help me--I had to scream repeatedly- to GO HOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

My dog put her body against me--and protected me the best she could--as they attacked her and myself--repeatedly---over and over--(its like a bad dream in my head over and over)
I got about 8 bites and my dog took over 17 ............

My husband came when he saw the kids screaming in terror-- to see a neighbor come out with a bb gun and shoot to get them off of me and my dog---

I had to go to the ER/ hospital, my dog to the vet 2x. WE both endured alot of pain and medical bills--the kids had a terrible time-too---I have still not recovered my complete feeling back into my thumb and index of the worst bites on my wrist and dont think I ever will as the wounds were so deep(nerve and tendon damage)

Anyway--the story-is very similiar--however the owners heard the screams and never came to see what was happening--Animal control was called--they came and took them in to the animal control(shots were not current) and-they held 2 of the 4 there for 5 days--the owners actually got them back before I even knew if they had rabies or not!!

They had to pay a few fees-for not having their vaccinations up to date and for their shelter bond--but that was about it..........a slap on the wrist----
WE never got --an apology--and not a dime to help on medical expenses for my dog, or myself----
Needless to say--these dogs still roam free and present trouble everytime they are around--
Their owner owns 68 acres is very well off- but yet still cannot contain them in his property.........no cares to.

They still roam free daily--and I cannot let the kids out of my fenced in backyard-and I cannot even walk out to the mailbox without a big walking stick-or air powered BB gun pistol with me--

Tried to take to court- for expenses and for the dogs to be put down--but no leash law in the rural area here........only city--so the law cannot help the case any--even with pictures and all the evidence--

I was told if something like this happened again and it was reported --that they would be put down-and they are now labled on paper as-"dangerous dogs" for all the good it does......

I wouldnt be surprised if the owners of the dog that terroized you will bail it out just like these did---
Just prepare yourself-and be ready-to put them out of their misery--

I was told by the animal control to kill them if they are on my property and feel threatened--but-let no one see the act or the dog/dogs end result--to dispose of immediately.............out of site out of mind-

Sad-how even your sheriff or animal control l cannot help you when there is a definite dog problem need.

Sorry for the long post--
Please becareful--and watch your children if they are out~
I pray that your issue will be dealt with better---
TC

TC, I'm very sorry for the horrible trauma you experienced! Your story really got my hackles up. Dogs are gentically the same as their ancestors yet a lot of "owners" do not act that way and take responsibility for them. Then people like you go through terrible experiences as a result.

That said, if I were in your shoes I'd sue the pants off those neighbors and shoot those dogs!

Do you still have the dog ? If so, I would take it to a shelter and tell them the dog killed my chickens, and has also bit a child, and you fear for the DOG'S safety. I think they would in all probability, take it into quarentine, and see what happens. If the parents of the child who was bitten doesn't want to pursue this, I would report them to the authorities as well, as this is child endangerment, because you don't know if the dog is (+) or not.
Last resort, dispose of it yourself, or if you can't find someone who will. It is obviouly a menace.
