We have a Chocolate lab/Catahoula mix. She is 4yrs old and her name is Kalia. (pronounced Kah-LEE-ya) We used to have a Boxer girl named Chloe, but we had to end her suffering from a very aggressive cancer. She was my "heart" dog, but now that we have Kalia, she has taken my heart.

Is it possible to tell when your dog is about to pass....?...

I had one pass 2 weeks ago, he had cancer, we chose to let him pass at home instead of putting him to sleep, but if he didn't pass that day there is no way I would have let him suffer, and I would have put him to sleep.
He ate every day up until the very last day..that is how I knew. He also just wanted to lay down the very last day...he was active up until the last day.
Do you have a sick one/old one?

Age really depends on the breed..
I had a chihuahua pass at 16 last year, one of my boxers was 8.5 when he passed a few weeks ago. Chihuahua had no medical problems, boxer did.
I have a 12 yr old Golden retrieve that is slightly fat but other wise healthy..
It's not just about age.
Does you dog have other problems?
Proper diet and exercise it the BEST thing for a healthy dog, genetics can't really be changed.

She Is slightly " large" and has arthritis...
Oh..and she got hit by a car a few months ago. No serious damage just a bloody muzzle and a cut on her head.
Shes fine though.
