Dog destroyed our coop.

So sorry! As everyone has said, you prob ably have birds hiding.
Did you see the dog? It will be back!!!
If birds return, have them indoors in a safe pen or dog crate, or something, to protect them while you rebuild. Ft. Knox!
You could buy a garden shed and modify it into a nice coop, but it will take some time.
Electric fencing goes up pretty fast, and is very effective. Look up Premier1supplies.com for advice and maybe products. Your local farm store will have stuff, and get a VERY GOOD charger, so hitting that fence will be unforgettable!

I hope you find your hens! I agree they are probably hiding somewhere. I have a pack of dogs that wonder my road and i have already decided to sss should this situation ever arise. I only catch them on the front corners of my property thus far and make sure to scare them away. I do hope you can find the rest of your chickens and eliminate this dog issue. Its frustrating wondering daily if they will show up. Best of luck to you and your flock:hugs

IMG_0222.JPG My coop/ run combination is built on an old concrete slab and foundation, to help with digging predators. The solid walls are plywood covered in siding, and the openings are hardware cloth very well secured. The lower 4' of the run area has 2"x4" woven wire over the hardware cloth, all stapled with fencing staples, and 1"x4" boards screwed in over that. Solid exterior doors with locks. The doors were very inexpensive at the Habitat Restore!
No openings larger than 1/2". If bears arrive, we will add electric fencing! IMG_0223.JPG IMG_0224.JPG I need newer photos, with less junk seen! Mary

Yours looks like a mansion compared to ours!! We have a flock of 4. Did 1/4 inch hardware cloth all around, 1 foot down, and 1 foot around. They free range in the yard most of the day within the chain-link fence as long as im here to supervise.

I need to clean up my junk lol this pic was taken today:p there are windows u can't see in the pic. Also done with hardware cloth.

I hope they all come back safe and I’m one piece! I find it is really helpful to teach them that when you say a certain thing it means treats are here. If I am missing a bird I just run and get some bread or something and call what I have taught them (la la la la le) and they’ll all come running. Very helpful!
Good luck finding them!

I have a more "Vanilla Ice" kinda mission statement. I live & let live outside the boundaries of my property line.

While I can appreciate the perspective previously given that you should find out who owns the dog that wreaked havoc on your property and your coop, I am wondering what the next step would be?

What are you going to do when you find out? Ask them nicely to not let their stupid dog roam? Tell them what happened because of their stupid dog and THEIR carelessness & complete irresponsibility? Wait for them to apologize, offer compensation & a neighborly hand at helping you rebuild your coop & flock?? Demand some of the above, all of the above, none of the above??

I submit that if the animal's owner gave a flying farthing about the damage or trouble that their dog or cat could get into/be responsible for, then you wouldn't be in this unfair situation, looking for your missing flock & hoping that they're ok. You did nothing wrong & the chickens most certainly didn't either.

Inside the boundaries of my property, well "if you make it my problem, yo, I'll solve it."
