My Lab suffered from Liver Failure 1 yr ago, I almost lost her due to antibotics and such. Once the vet & I realized this, she said stop ALL meds and we need to act fast to save her.
So I was told to put her on a 'Low Crude Protein Diet', give her Vit E, Milk Thistle, and SAMe. The food was the most difficult, she wanted her on 7% or less protein.
We finally found Blue, but only the cans were that low, which is fine it makes it easier to give her the pills now. I hated poking things down her throat, so now they are just broken into smaller pieces and mixed in with the food and pumpkin that I add. She loves it, I fork feed it to her, she feels 'special'.
This has been extremely hard on her ... and of course on us! We weren't going to loose our baby girl like this, not when it wasn't by natural causes. Please be aware of what the meds do to your pet when prescribed by your vet. They mean well, but if there is a natural alternative, take it. Such as, instead of giving your pet a stool softener, use pure pumpkin in their food or just plain if they will eat it.
For help with hip & joint problems, go with natural vitamins and minerals, ask the vet or health food store. My baby in taking 'Liver Health Complex' which helps her liver and also her hips from the arthuritis. She has had no problems with hips since being on this.
Recently, my husband found a food with exactly the same ingredients as Blue, it is called '4Health'. Since they had the same Chicken and Rice that I was feeding her in Blue, we switched. Blue is great but we were getting to the point of not being able to afford it, and 4Health is only .99 a can. She goes through 4 cans a day to try to get her weight back up and some muscle mass again.
Have any of you heard of '4Health Dog Food', it comes in Dry or Can? I would like opinions on the 4Health brand canned food, please.
