Dog Found a Baby Piglet

Yeah, he does but I doubt he is full blood. The other day, after a storm I was casually looking out and saw three little creatures walking across the goat paddock. It was too far to see clearly what they were. Rabbits are common but they weren't hopping. They had no tails, so not squirrels. I almost forgot about it until today when Maya found this little guy. I guess, now I know. Someone may have shot their mother because they are way too young to be wandering around on their own and they wouldn't have been born on my property since it is completely fenced and patrolled by dogs. I looked for the other two this afternoon and will look again with my Bulldog in the morning. She will let me know if they are still around and she won't hurt them.

I hate to say it but You might do best releasing him when he’s old enough to be on his own. If he is indeed a wild boar, then he might be more of a terror than a nice pet, especially being a male. I hope he isn’t a wild boar. That’d be so cool to raise a piglet. Good luck with your cutie.

Bless you and your dog for saving him. I've hand raised a lot of pigs a small bit of advice, because of their snout shape they do better eating from a very shallow dish than a bottle. They will aspirate milk very easily. Also at a few days old adding gerber baby rice with iron will help with any possible anemia. Good luck to you and your sweet baby!

A friend suggested releasing him but he would be imprinted. Not sure but releasing may be illegal in Florida. The best thing, I think at this point, is to care for him and find him a capable home in time.

Thanks! :)

What a cute little sucker. He can be castrated now. The sooner, the better. He does look like a wild boar. I have kunekune mixes with stripes but the body shape and coloring look wild on that guy. Castrated males raised by humans are sweethearts. Most pig problems are caused by hormones. And feeding out of your hand. That's a big no no. Anyway, I'm sure you have plenty of people who can give you lots of tips if you need them. ❤

Why is feeding out of your hand bad? Genuinely curious.
