Ugh I'm so livid right now. My dog got into my meat birds and got ahold of about 4 out of 10. Most of them he got in the butt and a few in the chest. There's puncture holes and skin ripped. What do I do with them? Some I don't think I can fix so what can I do with the meat? They were set to be butchered the 21st of July by a processor because I'm not ready to do my own yet. Can you use any topical medication on them or do they all just need to be culled.

I wouldn't think they all need to be culled, maybe some pics would help? Can you take a good look at each one and flush out their wounds with saline and see which are save-able?

Any that are beyond saving I personally wouldn't waste the meat. But it would probably go to the dogs.

@Ndahly, if they are struggling to walk or breathe, you should euthanize quickly - you don't want to butcher them immediately if a dog bit them because of potential bacteria contamination - but if they are walking around/eating/drinking, I would let them be and have them butchered with the rest. You might find they have signs of the old injury near any puncture spots, but you can usually cut around that pretty easily before cooking and it generally doesnt accumulate to much waste.

Okay thanks foe the helpful reply. A few it's mostly their tails that got ripped up. I'm just worried about it being so hot how do I keep the flies away and cleaned up?

Okay thank you, I think there are a couple I have to cull for sure but I think I can maybe save a couple other ones. I'm so bummed, these were my first meat birds and they were doing so well, I think all of them would have made it to the butcher date 🥺

Personally I prefer just plain saline for wounds and I sometimes use vetericyn. I suppose it might depend on the extent of the wound though.
