My Chihuahua tried to "play" with one of my seven week old turkeys. He/she definitely lost lots of feathers, and is limping. What should I do?? I'd say that it was definitely in shock, and got roughed up pretty well, but has been able to walk (with the limp, although it prefers not to walk if not required-especially doesn't like to walk out through chicken door), and has been able to fly up to the roost. I have not seperated it from its other turkey buddy, because it tends to get very stressed without the other. I added vitamins & electrolytes to their water...please let me know what else I should do. I have not had any poultry before, so any help you could provide would be helpful. And...yes, coop/run is now 100% secure so that the dog will not get in again!

I know chihuahuas are tiny "cute" little things, but they are basically rat terriers which means they like to kill stuff. I have a 110lb dog and a 60lb dog but I have mucho respect for those little terrier types. I'd be much more worried about a Jack Russell running loose than a Rottie.
Hopefully your turkey will recover! Mine got over the snake incident... But not the one that was half swallowed!

Turkey seems to be doing well today...no limp, and going in and out of the door unlike yesterday. Still not 100%, but I think he'll be just fine. This Chihuahua gets very fixated on "babies." He was insane over my baby Nigerian Dwarf Goats until they got older and started to head butt him...at which point he lost interest! I have a rooster in with my new batch of chicks simply because of him...I really didn't want one, but I figure we're all going to need help with this situation. I believe that the coop and run are Chihuahua-proof now, and we're working on additional fencing around that which is where the goats are going to live...he'll have to go through a whole lot of hoops to get in again and we'll do electric if we need to. Little monster!
