Dog has adopted my chicks

I have four dogs, two labs, one labradoodle and a great dane. Two labs are older and are indifferent to the chicks. One 4 wk old chick escaped from the pen today and retrieved by the labradoodle. Didn't work out so well. Lost the chick. At least it was a roo. Still sad though

Love to see protective pooches. My 6lb Chihuahua gets very nervous when the chicks stray and he cant see one. He's very motherly. Used to snuggle with our bunnies.

The day we brought our chicks home a week and a half ago, our collie, Isabeau, decided they were "her" chicks! Every time they peep louder than she thinks they should, she is right there to make sure everything is okay! She even had one fly out of the brooder and land on her back.....she is truly a Lassie wannabe!!!!

Sadly, too many owners, like my brother and his family, lose their chicks to their family dog or dogs! So grateful that I don't have to worry about my dog hurting a feather on our little peeps heads!!!

sounds like my doxie mickey i put the girls outside in a big dog kennel and he stood guard and would growl and snip at the others if they got to close and when one got loose as i was taking them back to their brooder two of my dogs decided it was "play" time but he jumped in and was trying to "herd" her away and almost looked like he was trying to catch her for me but she was just about as tall as he was but at least with him corraling her she was easier to catch

Aw !!-Way-To-Go-!! Pup !! My standard poodle is my chick protector any time a cat gets near them and barks and them and lets the chickies roost on him. Looks like we all have good pups !
