Hi all,

Hopefully (as discussed in another post of mine) I will be getting a really nice wooden dog house that will make an excellent coop. My question in this post is, if tht falls through, can I use a dog Igloo ( http://petsr4u.com/proddetail.asp?prod=21525874 ) as a coop? I ask as I already have one that I am not using.

Thanks!
Jason

Good Question! I have one as well!

I would think it would be ok for one or two birds, if you could add ventilation/light and a door that could be closed at night.

I had a cochin bantam trio that lived in a cheaper version of the dog-iglo for years. We put it underneath the overhang of roof so I'd be a little more shealtered. When we tried to move them into their new, bigger coop they kept trying to go back to the dog house until we got rid of it

I've thought about making one into a duck house. It would be easy to spray out and clean hehehee . Not sure how to make a good door on it though.

you could make a square wooden frame around the hole (which would have to go into the ground for support) and then just hinge a door onto the frame

My friend uses a dog igloo for his cochins as well. He keeps it inside a small kennel though, so its more like a nest box/house.
