dog is licking our new rabbit! WTHeck?!

For my aust shep/lab mix, it's mothering.... She'd lick our rabbits and baby chicks.... always under supervision.... I did have my lion head bunny kick one of our cat's butt one night when he was roaming around loose because DS left him on the couch.... Poor kitty got a bloody nose....

We have a rat terrier who thinks our kitten is her pup... they groom each other and then roll on the floor play fighting....

Dogs, especially females, tend to do that to either parent them, or to get to know them and sometimes, to make sure they will not harm any member of the "pack". I would go with the "parenting" because One: Dogs tend to adopt different animals into their family, Two: The dog is covering the rabbit with his/her scent. Three: While licking, and sniffing the rabbit, The dog isn't hurting it.
