Dog Kennel to Coop?

I currently have the opening to the dog house blocked off as this is where I hope they will lay. I plan on making a pull out nesting box/drawer thingy in the end of the dog house. You think that's a good idea? Will they go back in the darkened dog house or should I cut a window in the other end?

They like to lay in the dark so I wouldn't put a window in the nest area. A door to the nesting box is a great idea, whatever makes it easier for you to collect eggs.

I came up with a waterer that works well for us. It holds a lot of water and drippage is kept to almost nil. I was going to go with nipples but didn't want damp litter.

I reviewed this watering cup in the reviews section, The only other reviewer said his clogged up and was worthless. I put it on a covered pail so nothing could get in to clog it and raised it so high that they need a step to drink. That keeps the cup relatively clean. I just wipe it out when it gets some debris in it.

And here's our custom feeder!

Adds a little color....

O.K. we got the thing stained this weekend.......came out pretty good using left over stain from when we did the house. We left most of the 27 year old redwood as it was and stained the plywood and the boards around it. Wife says it's cute so that's all that matters.

I rattle can blacked the hardware cloth and I like how it lets you see in better and it looks better....this thing is right off our patio so looks count.

Thanks for looking!

Very nice coop!! You did a great job. You must have happy chickens. How do you like your pullet shut door? I can't decide between the pullet shut or the ADOR1.

Well, it seems to be very well built. As you can see from the pictures of the coop a vertical slider was not an option for us.

It had to open like a regular door. The only option we went with was the solar charger. We didn't want the dawn til dusk sensor as we wanted some control of when the girls get to gallivant around the yard.

The ADOR1 would seem to be a good option if you had room above for it to go up. I don't think you could go wrong with the Pullet Shut though!

What a cute picture! I wish our girls could still free range. We have bobcats and hawks in our area. After we lost a hen we decide to expand their run and keep them inside safe.
