I know the birdie girls are flock animals, but now here I am with one. I am not sure if I should try to keep her as a single hen, or find a new home for her with a flock.
I am most concerned about winter (we live in Alaska) and I'm not sure she would be able to make it without someone to snuggle with at night.
I would get more hens, but I doubt I can get them until spring at this point.
What are the pros and cons of keeping this one birdie?

I say keep it. you can get another couple of birds through mail order if your local store does not have them at this point.if you have electricity running to your coop you can also put in A heat lamp to help keep it warm in the winter months I have one in my coop thats Hooked up to a thermometer. It works great. Good luck

A rooster just showed up at our property. A neighbor told me that there was a pit bull loose and we realized that the rooster's tail is completely off and his back side looks sore. Is there a rooster rescue around the greater Atlanta area? He is eating. Help!

I'd call animal control or your local vet they maybe able to help or give you a name of someone willing to help. Good luck

A single hen will be ok as long as you pay attentiom to her. Be good buddies. But you never know. Ask around and see if anyone has hens for sale. You'd be surprised what you might find :)

I'd get more hens ASAP. I had a hen who hung out with my neighbor's hen, and she died in the fall from predators. I figured I would just her chicks next spring/summer. I did, and now she refuses to be social with the new chickens. She's mean to them and doesn't wanna have anything to do with them.
