The dog got in the bathroom & she bumped the bator. The top came off, & and egg rolled out. The shell is fractured all over,& has some peices missing, but the membrane is intact. I am in the middle of lockdown & the chick is moving & peeping. I wrapped it loosely in a damp paper towel & put it back in. Do you think it'll be ok?

Yep, it was the best you can do since they are in lockdown already. Good luck!

I'm betting on a hatch, assuming the fall didn't ring its bell. That close to hatching, I am optimistic for you. I'd make sure the paper towel doesn't dry out. A bottle with a fine mist sprayer would be handy right now.

I hope so too. I feel awfully guilty for not watching that dog better. She heard the peeping & has to mother everything. There is one other already out, & 2 more have pipped & I hear peeping & scratching.

My cats knocked over my incubator on lockdown day, damaging eight of ten Serama eggs, some of them pretty badly. I melted candle wax over the worst of the cracks and put them back in and upped the humidity some, and nine of the ten hatched, and one of them is sitting on her own eggs and hatching even as I type this.

In hindsight, I would have melted some wax in a container and swabbed it on with QTips - dripping the wax from the burning candle was very messy and imprecise, not to mention I almost caught my hair on fire.

I think you'll be fine keeping the paper towel damp - just make sure to use warm water.

Good luck!!!

Well he made it. I got 3 out of that hatch. I feel lucky to get that many, because they spent their incubation period at a preschool as a class project. He's stumbling around with the other two, acting perfectly normal. One of the ones that had pipped stopped & died during the night. I'm glad the little fella pulled through. The guilt was really getting to me.
