Dog only goes for chickens when not home

I apologize if a question like this has already been asked/answered but my border collie (around 10 months old) is a great girl but she tries to play with the chickens only when I am not home. I was wondering if anything could be done other than separating the two. thanks.

Yes, separation is necessary here. She's figured out that in your absence anything goes! Fortunately she hasn't killed any yet, but it's likely going to happen, maybe very soon.
MAYBE with more training she will be fine out there someday. MAYBE.
Remote corrections, when you aren't apparently present, may help. As in a shock collar, used as a long leash, by hunting dog trainers. If you want to use this method, get assistance from an actual dog trainer, because it's something that takes experience to use properly.
