Hi everyone!
First time poster here!
This is out first year having chickens. We have 12 hens, and about 90% sure we have 1 rooster! Chickens are so much fun..I've become obsessed! Why didn't I get chickens sooner?!
Anyways...
the neighbors dog are a problem. They don't bark non stop, but I catch them coming right up to the fence line and barking at our chickens. Our chickens usually hide under the coop when I've caught them barking. The owner is home all day and doesn't do anything about it. She is actually kind of a friend of ours. We ran into her in public one day and she said "the dogs will get used to them like they got used to the other neighbor's chickens." Our coop is right up on the fence line. Our future plan is to put up a privacy fence along our back property line. However, that is VERY pricey so looking for a solution for right now.
I've done some research on dog silencers. My concern is that it will bother our chickens. We would put it on the back of the coop facing our back neighbors house. They are supposed to have a pretty far range, so nervous our chickens will hear the constant noise and it will bother them/stress them out.
Does anyone have any experience with silencers?

Can you use a high powered soaker squirt gun or a hose when the dogs bark at fence line. I'd not do so without neighbor's permission. Neighbor is correct, dogs will eventually become habituated to the chickens, but ... What a nuisance to deal with!

Can you put something up temporarily along the fence where the chickens are (a tarp, a sheet of plywood, etc) to block the line of sight at least for now? The dogs will still be able to hear them, but maybe not seeing them walking/running/ flapping around will help.
Some people, nice as can be, can be completely oblivious to how others are affected by their 'little darlings'.

I hadn't thought of that! Unfortunately, I can't be out there all day to keep watch. When we hear them or are out there, we yell at them. Maybe we could try that!
I heard them outside barking at like 11:30 last night. I got up and yelled "QUIET!" out our window. The one dog did stop when I did that. I know a privacy fence is the best option, maybe we will just have to bite the bullet and do it!

The only thing bark-silencers are efficient at is emptying your wallet! Can you put up privacy fencing just along the coop line? Think of it as a solid wind-break.

Then, again, the barking must bother the neighbor. And a motion detector sprinkler would silence the dogs, AND WATER THE NEIGHBOR'S LAWN. She just might love it. I know that if I was that neighbor, I'd love that creative solution!

We did discuss putting up like a 20 foot section of privacy fence for now. Drives me bonkers!! haha
