We have a 2 yr old Black lab/collie mix dog. He is really a big baby, but he barks his terrible bark at anything that doesn't belong in his yard, and other people's yard

. Tonight he was barking at something so I went outside, and something was in our tree by the coop. After a while I didn't hear anything and the dog settled down. Later, he did it again, but soon settled down. My husband came home and we went outside together, and our dog went lickety split to the back....he treed the coon in our tall pine tree!!! I'm so proud of him!!!

WIll other coons stay away if they smell a dead one?

While we might see a carcaus as a threat, wild animals see it as food. You will draw in more than you keep away.

Have your heard of "coonhounds disease"? Any dog can catch this but it is more prevalant in coonhounds. Certain dogs (and I dont think there is a way to tell which ones) develop a bad reaction to the saliva of the coon. This affects the nerves controll the muscles. Watch your dog for these symptoms, just in case.

Good dog! A very beautiful dog too. (I also have a big black lab mix baby)
