Redhen, the benadryl should help with the itching.
Another suggest to add on top of the below.
Have a look in his ears.
We had a dear lab who was a love but certainly had his mystery health issues.
He had a very similar reaction with connected ear infections on two occassions.
We found out in time and after testing that all the sensitivity was in line with
food allergies (poultry and wheat in Beau's case).
Good luck finding the cause...he is a beautiful dog.![]()
I am having the SAME problem with BOTH my dogs right now... What the heck!? Both!
They eat decent food, (TOTW) And no fleas that i can see at all...
Sooo, i'm trying the benadryl and gonna put some flea meds on them to be sure...
OP, what all did you do to get the itching to stop?
Hi redhen. Sorry it took ages to get back. I think I've got the hang of this new BYC finally!
I used a wash called Malaseb Medicated Foam. It's like magic potion. Not sure if it is sold under the same name in the states but the active ingredients are 20g/L of Chlorhexidine & 20g/L of Miconazole - it is a 'Topical keratolytic, antibacterial, antifungal & antipruritic foam for dogs and cats"
I noticed a massive improvement immediately when I used this stuff.... The itching stopped and redness subsided within the hour. Then the next day when the stores were open I went & purchased some Advocate. It treats all sorts of mange and stuff as well. I really think the Malaseb was what did the trick... just got the Advocate to kick the fleas in the butt!

Seems like it is sold under the same name in the states! Different bottle though! (The pic below shows the aussie version of the bottle)
