Dog with sores - could it be from chickens?

Hot spots are called that because they usually have licked or rubbed them and irritated the skin until it is hot and red and oozing. They can get them in hot or cold weather and they are usually caused by a skin irritation, ie bites or scrapes/cuts that get bacteria in them and start a mild infection. They can't get air circulation with all the hair so they get worse until they are clipped.
My labs get them very occasionally but I had a golden before them that got them in the summer because she loved to muck around in the pond and then scratched herself on this fallen tree we had in the woods. Who knows why she kept doing this?! LOL.
It was always by the base of her tail on top, even though she was always kept on Frontline.
