Dogs and Chickens

And then there is the other side of the coin.....

Where folks can and do free range both species side by side with never an incident...for years.

As you can see, these are Lab mixes and both have an extremely high prey drive....and zero chicken drive. Training and socialization counts for much and choosing an intelligent pooch is another plus.

Exactly, you have to treat a dog like a dog. I have a lab mix and when she first came to live with us, she thought she would chase the chickens. She is 6 months old now, still a baby and we let her know that chickens are off limits, she isn't even allowed to get too excited around them. She is doing very well, just this morning I was showing her a bantam chick by placing it on her back while she was laying down. She didn't mind, and after a while she gave her a kiss, my dog got so much praise. lol

INTERESTING INFO EVERYONE.

i've got a similar question:

we've got a Banny Rooster who likes to chase/peck after our full grown Doxie! i'm talking the Roo chases the pooch down, hauling butt through the house, under the table, around chairs, stools, etc. etc. although half the time it looks like they're having a blast.

anywho, next month we're getting a Doxie pup - cute little black/brown longhaired.
okay, here's the question:
DO YALL KNOW OF A GOOD WAY TO INTRODUCE THE PUP TO THE ROO SO THEY'LL BE "FRIENDLY," TO EACH OTHER???????
hmm.png

you know, make sure the pup doesn't infringe on the Roo's turf.

ultimately they're going to share a rather big yard, and i don't want to endure daily battles between Ellroy (long-haired doxie pup) and Clementine Flufffenutter (Banny Roo).
ANY advice would be GREATLY appreciated.
mucho thanks!
