dogs and chickens

i know that some dogs see a chicken its normal to chase or kill the chicken,and there are dogs that dont mind chickens at all,i have a dachshund and chihuahua that will walk with the chickens,but when ever a cat or other dog come around look out,i did not train or raise them with the chickens,i had them before i ever had chickens and turkeys,so i guess its the nature that some dogs kill or not kill chickens,,
