I am totally stumped guys... hope you can help.

I have 2 dachshunds, I've tried to introduce to the chicks. i would rather not worry about my dogs since they will be sharing a backyard.
we've had some progress, but my female doxie just whines and prances at the side of the brooding box, with a please can i have a treat attitude? She likes 1 chick in particular and after putting 6 on the bathroom floor without her budging, i pulled out the one she "likes" and she went for it mouthing it
I'm not sure if she just has this one picked out for a snack or if she is being motherly, since the chick was following her around the bathroom with the are you my mother look.

One of our neighbors hens got in our yard a couple months ago after its flight feathers grew out and she was viciously trying to attack it while it was hiding. i was scared she had killed it. Is it safe to say my dachshund doesn't like chicks?

Thinking I may have to reinforce the bottom 1/3 of the run.

Keep them seperate. Dachshunds are little hunters and while there are exceptions I think it's safe to say yours aren't. They're pretty good diggers too so make sure to include a hardware cloth apron in your coop/run design.

I won't tell the whole story of we have gone through, but you just cannot predict what your dogs will do. NEVER leave them together without your supervision! Trust me on this one. I have lost WAY too many chickens, and rabbits in the last 7 months to my own dogs.

That is too bad. We'd like to get a dog (our lab died of old age) but I'm afraid of loosing my hens. Perhaps if we get a puppy, the hens would put her in her place!

It is really best you keep them apart for good. Dogs, even dogs raised with them, usually are too rough with chickens if not down right blood thristy. Its best not to take the chance.

I was thinking about the difference between breed (of dogs that is)
I certainly wouldnt trust a bird dog with a chick.
Dachshunds aren't bird dogs, but are still hunters and only one of mine actually kills things.
The other just chases things for sport. He has a game with the neighbors cat that likes to take the short cut through our yard every morning.
He also could care less about the cute little chirping things in the bathroom that the whole family is in love with as long as he gets his fair amount of the attention.

Is there any breed that is good with chickens?

i read something funny (but true) on some other site about pet chickens the other day. the guy said "be careful when you put them outside, make sure they're safe....cuz everything wants to eat chicken!"
