Dogs are killing my ducks and chickens. How do I safely repel them? Ultra sonic?

I understand. I have a locking coop and a 6' fence. I let them out a lot during the day when I'm outside, almost always, lol. We have tons of predators up here in the boonies.
They can still escape, 6'fence ignored.
Some chickens go far and wide, some stay close by.
I think ducks range farther in the wild too, don't they?

I surely wasnt implying any blame toward you about locking them up. I hope it didn't sound that way!
It's amazing to me how some of us must take up the slack of other pets' owners when they are negligent.
I believe your critters should have free range of your yard without worry about toothed invaders.
Sad that never works out.
You really can't blame the dogs, either. That's in their nature.
But the owners need to exercise proper control and restraint.
that's on them and for their failure to do so, they should be held accountable.
I'm not talking about the truly accidental leash-slip or dig-outs dogs can perform, but those owners who simply don't care.
Accidents do happen, of course.
My first year saw me pressing a greenhouse into service as a coop, it was all i had at the time.
my daughter uses sturdy dog houses raised for her turkeys.
so ingenuity works, lol

It didn’t come off that way. It’s hard to interpret what someone means in this meta verse. Sometimes I over explain myself.

I do agree with I think everything you mentioned. As a pet owner, we’re responsible for them, when my ducks or peacocks get scared, they run right to me.
I live in the country where when something like this happens you have a friendly chat with your neighbor about their dog. You explain their dog killed my chickens and you don't want to see that dog around your place again and leave it at that. If it happens again you dispatch the dog. Common country curtesy. Do unto others as you would have them do unto yo

I’d like to give you a star for saying that. Do unto others are as you would do unto them. My mother said that said that to me and it was burned into my brain. Bob Dylan said that too in one of his songs.

I do get mad when a stray kills my animals. I try very hard to keep my cool, but I also see my effort and love have been totally destroyed.

My wife said to shoot the dogs and I looked into the legal law and thought about it a bit, and figured I should just talk to the neighbor and let them know your dog killed all my animals.

I lock the ducks up in the evening but they fly and sneak out. Not all but some. This last incident, a dog got my favorite duck. I liked to put food where she liked to fly up and sit and wait for me to come by in the mornings.
I'm really sorry that happened, this must be incredibly stressful for you. If they are flying out, then they really need a pen to hold them in, a roof of some type to keep them in and keep dogs out. Of course some could suggest clipping their wings to prevent them escaping, but with dogs coming and snatching them, clipping their wings would make them easy targets, unable to get away.
The only real solution is to pen them, or keep the dogs out- if you dont mind me asking, why can't you install a gate?

To protect the animals I love, I would kill those dogs in a heart beat.
I've lost too many Birds to roving dogs over the years to care anymore about an irresponsible owner letting their dogs go out on killing sprees. And what kind of dog runs anyway? My dog never leaves my property when she's out.A dog that runs is a useless dog, get rid of it.
That's harsh, really harsh. It isn't the dog's fault, they're just doing what dogs do. They have a prey drive. It seems to me that the owners are grossly irresponsible, a combination of poor training and neglect has led to the loss of other loved animals.
"useless" for leaving their home? That doesn't make them useless.
They're better off with someone more responsible for sure. If it were me I would probably report it. But it isn't that simple, it isnt just one dog, the ducks need to be fenced in.

yea, this just happened to me. Neighbors Dog killed half my chickens before I could get outside and stop it.
It's not so much the dogs fault as its owners. Now that I have told the owner of the dog, it will be his fault that the dog dies by being put down by animal control or me if I catch it in my run again.
I take some blame as I knew my run had a weak spot in the run fence . It could have been a day time coyote or coon not just the neighbors dog.

Bottom line, I am to be responsible for my animals as much as others should be for theirs. I went out and got new animal wire to redo the chicken run because everything wants to eat your chickens. If you can't take a loss, don't get chickens. If you don't want a loss, harden off the best you can.
After I have done all I can/should do , I will defend my property and what is on it. You have been warned.

The young man that owned the chicken killing dog asked me if I wanted to call the law. I said no, I love dogs. I want you to keep your dog caught up. I can't have it killing my chickens. If I catch it in my run again I will shoot it. He said that was understandable and we shook hands.

I will fix my fence .
I will get new chicks.
I will call animal control if i see this dog in my yard.
I will shoot anything that gets in my run as it is legal to do so.

that is a fairer attitude, and one I respect a lot more. I personally still wouldn't kill the dog, I would call animal control/take it to a shelter and have them deal with it, in hopes that someone else will be more responsible for the dog, rather than giving it a direct death sentence-

But I do understand the need to stop the situation while it is happening. I would be absolutely beside myself if an animal killed my ducks, and who knows what I would do in the moment to stop it.
I'm glad you took your share of responsibility and did your part in preventing the situation, though, I respect you for that

Animal control will put the dog down for killing live stock anyway. I am an old country boy and proficient with firearms. I have had to put down many sick or injured animals growing up in the backwoods.
I would be very careful trying to stop an animal attack as it can turn and attack you. I know , can and will do what I have too.
If you are not as skilled, call animal control.

When multiple dogs and events at different times, then shooting offending dogs is likely not to be practical. Closing off the driveway would be a quick fix so I rethink reasoning for not doing it. Dogs will take a lot more time to get in place, and be more expensive. It can be a rear challenge trying to get neighbors to confine dogs better through your efforts alone. Dog related legislation likely better for that.
