Most people do 6 or 7 square feet per bird in the run at the minimum. With less room, they're more likely to pick each other and cause bleeding.Yeah, I have 3 hens and a rooster. Ideally, I would like 4 hens and a rooster. You think my coop is too small for 5 chickens? It’s 16 square ft of scratching room. They all have enough room to get on the roost. I have 2 nest boxes that are about 1.5’ x 2’. After they get down to dirt, I move the whole coop over to give them fresh grass to scratch and eat.
Mine have 5soft each. And they’re fine. We live in the city. We have a big, airy coop. They never fight. Probably because they get let out for hours each day. Most people do 6 or 7 square feet per bird in the run at the minimum. With less room, they're more likely to pick each other and cause bleeding.
They have single combs and yellow legs. What are you judging by?
Definitely too small. You should have at least 48 square feet for 5 chickens, 35 if you're pushing it.Yeah, I have 3 hens and a rooster. Ideally, I would like 4 hens and a rooster. I had some bantam hens and a rooster. I got rid of them and only have 3 hens and 1 rooster left. I did deviate from the plan just a little bit. It didn’t call for a guard cat, but I thought that was a nice addition! It’s not a bad coop. I would just recommend some more floor space.
I see another rooster - two boys with three girls isn’t a good plan.
