Dominant Copper chickens ???

Those new crosses all seem to be towards egg production. All a good thing in my opinion. Gives people the option to go for the egg laying production new types or stick with heritage breeds.

As far as egg color goes I wouldn't even expect very dark eggs from Hatchery Marens so I think egg color might be pretty good for hybrids.

They have got it right, though.....the "midnight majesty marans" offered by hoovers, who have sourced heavily from dominant cz in the last few years, are a black hen, no visible leakage but brown under feathering, and barred cocks.....no idea why the horns dont have visible leakage, but they dont
I understand that.
These hatcheries are using dominant cz pics.
One I saw the other day showed the parent rooster stock but what they showed as the parent hen stock was the black hen that dominant cz shows as the hen produced.
Then in the description below the pick it stated correctly that the cross was using a barred hen.
How do you not catch that with a marketing department?

Post pics of your egg colors and how many you get in a year. I have no faith in those numbers advertised as holding up.
I did notice while the others state 290 that Hoover's state 250.

I got two from Coastal Farm and Ranch this year. I don’t remember which hatchery they were from, but the info sheet listed them as a Black Copper Maran/Barred Rock cross. They are just past 18 weeks old. Feathered outer toes, one is all black, one is black with auburn feathers peaking out on her neck. They are sweet and inquisitive, but a bit skittish and avoid being picked up. Stand tall and proud. I’ve seen some resources say they are talkative, but the two I have are super quiet. I have a mixed flock of 12 with 7 different breeds and these are two of the biggest breasted chickens in the bunch.

It looks like no one ever updated with egg info, so since mine might be getting close to that age, I will post pictures when they start! I won’t keep track of how many they do in a year, but I’ll try to get a weekly avg. for you all.

Got my first egg from one of our Dominant Copper pullets today. There is a close up, and there is a photo of it in a carton with our others. No filters on either picture, just different lighting.

I like the color! Not a dark chocolate color like a true FBCM, but it’s definitely darker than tan. And the ombré and speckled aspects are lovely.

My other Dominant Copper has yet to lay, but I’m sure it will be soon. The one that laid today is all black, with iridescent green sheen to her feathers. Nice feathering on her outer toes. But her comb is quite small. The other one almost looks like a true Black copper Maran. Tall red comb, copper feathers in her neck... perhaps her eggs will be even darker? Will update when she lays.

We bought a bunch of chickens this spring. We bought three Dominant Copper from Coastal. Now that they are older, we can't tell the difference between the Dominant Copper, and our Black Australorps. It's been confusing.

Some of our chickens have started laying, we have two dark brown eggs, which I'm pretty sure is from the Dominant Coppers. I can post a picture tomorrow.

Well I’m only speculating that the link I provided was the cross in question, I suppose there could be a similar cross made using a RIR male x cuckoo Marans female... but I did not see it on the Dominant company site.
to get a Dominant copper the hen must be a copper Maran, and the rooster would be barred Rock. it is not a registered breed but they are beautiful and cold hardy birds.

"Dominant copper" hens aren't barred though so the roosters that makes them can't be a Barred Plymouth Rock.
Marans rooster over Barred Rock hen would produce sex-links, non barred pullets and barred sons.
