"Domineque" Chickens? * Got a reply from the idiot*

According to The American Livestock Breeds Conservancy, the Dominique is in WATCH status.

Watch: Fewer than 5,000 breeding birds in the United States, with ten or fewer primary breeding flocks, and globally endangered. Also included are breeds with genetic or numerical concerns or limited geographic distribution.

The breed census satisfies numerical guidelines. Here are the others:

Critical: Fewer than 500 breeding birds in the United States, with five or fewer primary breeding flocks (50 birds or more), and globally endangered.
Threatened: Fewer than 1,000 breeding birds in the United States, with seven orfewer primary breeding flocks, and globally endangered.
Recovering: Breeds that were once listed in another category and have exceeded Watch category numbers but are still in need of monitoring.
Study: Breeds that are of interest but either lack definition or lack genetic or historical documentation.

I have a barred rock (BR). Never had a Dominique. Once I looked at a picture of a dominque, closely resembled a BR, but was different looking, thats all I know.

Goat_Walker - pm me his response I'd love to know what he said to you since he got my "factual" post on CL flagged and removed!!

Since when I posted the first response it was removed I wont post his nextr response.

TO sum it up he gave me some crude suggestions as well as asked me why he should care about chickens. Yet he is trying to say one is exstinct?! UGH! im not going to reply this time because its just annoting that some people have no imagination and are so crude!

They are not extinct! I have two; see Sophie 1 is my Avatar! Yes, they have rose combs, where Rocks have single combs. Compared to Rocks, they are smaller and more skittish.

I don't have any Barred Rocks, but my Dominique hen is calm, happy, very friendly, and is out in all kinds of weather; not skittsh at all!

LOL, yes I have 2 Doms. They are a bit more cautious about things than the Astrolorps, Jersey, or BO, but both are very sweet and friendly. My daughter did want this breed since she had read they were on the recovering breed list...didn't realize they were still on the watch catagory. They were once one of the favorite breeds of the early pioneers...good egg production and satisfactory for the chicken stock pot...not that ours will ever end up there!

If I am not mistaken They developed Barred Rocks from Dominiques and Black Javas back in the early 1800s. Nowadays Domiques have recovered from very rare to fairly common. Barred Rocks are very common. And Black Javas are in danger of extintion.

i have a dominque hen that i raised from a egg. her parents are purebreed and now im proud to say she is laying every other day here is her picture
